ITEMAN: Analysis Aborted -- Too few cases in data file

Too few cases in data file

Version 3.6 generates an "ANALYSIS ABORTED-- too few cases in data file" error if I try to run a subgroup analysis under a specific condition. Example as reported by a customer:

Problem:

I have a 2-column variable called "Grade" that covers school grades 1 through 12, located in Beginning Column 3 and Ending Column 4.

Solution:

If I simply enter "5" with a space following as the Subgroup Target Code, and run Analyze, I get the "Analysis Aborted" message. I discovered that I can avoid this if I designate the Beginning Column field as 4 (making it a 1-column instead of 2-column field), or if I enter "5" with a leading space instead of "5" with a space following into the Subgroup Target Code field.
